Ʊ-shaped Elastic Microwells

Platform Overview

The Ʊ-shaped Elastic Microwell platform is fabricated using sacrificial droplet printing, creating elastic microwells that support uniform organoid and spheroid culture. Each kit includes a microwell array, standard culture plate adapters, and imaging-compatible inserts. Users can customize well size, elasticity, and plate format, while the base elastic material and overall Ʊ-shaped geometry remain fixed.

Key Features & Advantages

  • Controlled microwell geometry – organizes cells into uniform aggregates, reducing variability across experiments.

  • Optimized for liquid handling – enables pipetting, drug addition, and medium changes with minimal risk of organoid damage or loss.

  • Size-based classification – different microwell sizes generate or maintain consistent organoid sizes, supporting reproducible, size-dependent studies.

  • High-throughput capability – allows hundreds of microwells to be processed simultaneously, facilitating large-scale experiments.

Collaboration / Customization Options

We welcome collaborators interested in testing the platform or developing custom protocols. Adjustable parameters include:

  • Well size: 100–5000 μm diameter

  • Stretch amplitude: 5–100 %

  • Plate format: compatible with 6‑well, 12‑well plates, and 35 mm or larger petri dishes

Custom collaborations can involve co‑developing microwell geometries, optimizing for specific organoid types, or pursuing joint publications.
